Just recently, Dako Brand & Communication teamed up with American Corner Indonesia by Universitas Airlangga Surabaya to host a digital marketing training session with a twist. This wasn’t your typical seminar with slides and lectures. Instead, we brought in the Dako Board Game, a custom-designed simulation game that teaches digital marketing strategies in a fun and interactive way.
Unpacking the Insights from the Game
One of the participants, Kak Randra, shared his thoughts after playing the game. According to him, the experience opened his eyes to how complex digital marketing really is.
“One of the key insights I got was that having a lot of followers doesn’t automatically guarantee sales. There are many other factors we need to prepare to make our business run effectively,” he said.
This really hits home for many beginners in the field. Having a large following may look impressive, but it’s not the full story. You need solid strategies—like understanding your target audience, creating relevant content, and using data smartly. The Dako Board Game highlights how important it is to take a thoughtful approach when building a digital business.
Learning Digital Marketing Can Be Fun
Amber Johnston, a participant from American Corner Unair, also shared her excitement:
“Dako board game has been amazing!” she said with enthusiasm. She went on to say how much value she gained from the session, especially since she had very little background in marketing. “I have very little experience in marketing, and it was a really easy way to understand and digest the information,” she added.
From an Intern’s Point of View: An Unexpected Learning Journey
It wasn’t just the participants who took something valuable from the event. Diva, a student from the English for Business and Professional Communication program at Politeknik Negeri Malang, also shared her memorable experience. As a Dako intern, she got the chance to apply her Simultaneous Interpreting class during the event—something she never imagined she’d enjoy.
“I didn’t expect to use that course at all. Honestly, I didn’t even like the subject much. But turns out, applying it in this event was actually kind of fun!” she said.
Before the event, she also worked on translating the training modules and game rule book from Indonesian to English—another hands-on opportunity related to her studies in General Business Document Translation. It gave her a sense of fulfillment to use her academic skills in a real-world setting.
A Fun, Insightful, and Memorable Learning Experience
This digital marketing training session with Dako Board Game and American Corner wasn’t just about playing a game. It was a space for discovering new perspectives, building skills, and creating real connections between participants.
Dako Board Game proves that learning digital marketing doesn’t have to be stiff or boring. It can be engaging, insightful, and practical—perfect for anyone looking to explore digital marketing in an unconventional, but highly effective way.
